Set out where few have ventured before: East into the Sulu Sea to Palawan’s remote Cuyo Islands, where scores of sea turtles and stingrays sweep across boundless reefs. Gape in awe at the blueness of the water of this remote Philippine island group.
The Cuyos are divine, with some of the best diving, snorkeling, and kitesurfing in the country and a friendly local populace – the Cuyonon – that speak their own language are largely isolated from the rest of the Philippines (the only way here is by boat). The main industry, naturally, is fishing, which means fresh seafood meals are practically a given.
The Cuyo Islands are not too far from the southern tip of Coron Island in the Calamian Group. You may circumnavigate Coron Island at the beginning or end of this trip. A marvel in itself, unspoiled Coron Island teems with wildlife and is the ancestral home of the Tagbanua indigenous group.
